President AKUFO ADDO Visits Alma Mater Lancing College

His Excellency Nana Addo Danquah Akufo Addo returned to his alma mater Lancing College in England on Sunday 7th October 2018. His class of 1962 describe him as brilliant, unpretentious and blessed with sporting skills. He entered Lancing College in the 1960s at the age of 13, at the time when he was the only African student in a white-dominated boarding school. Lancing College, established in 1848 as a boys’ school, prides itself as a creative and dynamic place where students are groomed to be global citizens capable of meeting all challenges.

In recognition to his contribution to humanity, the President was invited to speak to and connect with current students and his old colleagues whom he had not seen after completing A-Levels 56 years ago.  In his message, the President mentioned the idea of Africans with breadbaskets in their hands begging as one that he found deeply offensive because the African continent is replete with the resources that, if properly managed, should enable Africa to develop.

The President said unlike the industrialisation of the west which took place during the 19th century industrial revolution in England, the current era enjoined him and other African governments to develop bearing in mind ideals such as democratic governance, universal adult suffrage, open society and non-restricted engagement with all sectors of the nation.

President Akufo-Addo was accompanied by the High Commissioner of Ghana to the United Kingdom and Ireland, H.E. Papa Owusu-Ankomah, Secretary to the President, Nana Bediatuo Asante and the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration Hon. Mohammed Tijani.
