C.E.P.S. - The Bedrock of Ghana’s Economy

The Ghana Customs, Excise and Preventive Service (CEPS) is the statutory organisation responsible for the collection of taxes and levies on imports, exports and locally manufactured commodities.

CEPS also sees to forestall loss of revenue by preventing smuggling mainly by physically patrolling of the countries borders and other strategic points, and examination of goods and premises as well as documents relating to the goods.

In addition to these revenue functions, CEPS performs agency duties on behalf of other government organisations and ministries by seeing to the enforcement of laws on import and export restrictions and prohibitions.

CEPS collects about 70% of total revenue and this revenue s used to finance the country’s recurrent budget and development projects of health, education, transport and so on.
